On this Remembrance Weekend, when the world is in such turmoil, I thought I would contribute a post on the theme of Peace. This beautiful Gaelic Blessing immediately came into my mind.
There are several blessings with their origins in the Gaelic language of Scotland. Probably the best known is "Deep peace of the running wave to you".
Its simple, gentle words have been set to music by modern composer,
John Rutter, most famous for his arrangement of Christmas carols.
Deep peace of the running wave to you.
Deep peace of the flowing air to you.
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you.
Deep peace of the shining stars to you
Deep peace of the gentle night to you.
Moon and stars pour their healing light on you.
Deep peace of Christ,
Of Christ the light of the world to you.
Of Christ the light of the world to you.
Deep peace of Christ to you.

I'm so happy to see this post with your wishes for everyone to feel peace. I've been meditating on sending love to all the people involved in conflicts at this time, from the politicians and generals to those on the front line, to each person's own heart that knows love towards others. And also to those suffering from wounds or the death of loved ones. Our world is crying out for more peace.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Barbara for such a beautifully expressed comment - much appreciated.
DeleteI love this poem and have it in my study. We used it for my father-in-law's funeral. Love how you've combined the words with the images.
