A Convivial Drink? Sepia Saturday

Sepia Saturday encourages bloggers to record their family history through photographs.

Two men out for a drink - whether it be tea, coffee or something stronger?  I have the ideal matching photograph  that I have wanted  to feature for some time.

I must admit I took this photograph rather surreptitiously in a cafe bar in Munch Square, in Bavaria, Germany.  The two men looked so genial sitting there with their huge beer tankards.  Combined with the sign,  this seemed such a good photograph to take to typify the Bavarian scene.  Meanwhile we were indulging in a drink and "kuche" - cakes.

Another invitation for coffee and cakes in Bavaria.

Spoilt for choice! More indulgence  at cake counters in Austrian cafes -
and we were regular visitors!

More celebration  of the grape (below) in one of the many examples of art
on buildings in Austria and Bavaria.

  2. I'm not a cake person, but the beer appeals.

  3. Oh dear me, I'm suddenly feeling thirsty too! Lovely photos especially my favorite the two men in Germany!

  4. The two men with your giant beer steins look very jovial. I wonder what's in the basket - pretzels? Or maybe they're enjoying these drinks before a meal and the bread was served first. Either way - makes me want to stop for a beer.

  5. I'd be afraid the ceiling decorations might brain me in mid-drink. How bizarre.

  6. I like the coloring on the first photo. Before I scrolled down far enough to see the men, I thought it was a black and white photo. I'm still not sure whether the scene actually looked like that or whether the monotone top was the result of some effect added in the camera and/or computer.

  8. We went to the Christmas markets in Munich a year ago and your first picture took me straight back there, for whilst my wife enjoyed the markets, I enjoyed the beer halls.

  9. I especially like the first photo. It is so typical German. The man on the left looks very happy with (or because of) his beer. The decorations on the ceiling are unusual and interesting too.

  10. A number of European countries seem to specialise in cakes; a great place you found to go for cakes and ale.

  11. I have never been to Germany, but your first photo captures what I imagine it is like. I think I'd be a frequent visitor at the bakery too.

  13. When I was there as a tourist, I was amazed at the variety of German and Austrian coffee cakes on display. It was difficult to decide on a special treat. I had the same problem with their beer too.
